I would like to calculate the mean age of respondents to a survey. The ages are in ranges with the top range being open-ended (75 yrs+). How should I be calculating this?

When using ranges, the common way of calculating means is using the mean of the range (0-15 would be 7,5). Compute a new varaible based on that (TRANSOFMR>COMPUTE VARIABLES, use the age variable as an IF condition) and take the mean of the new one. For open-ended intervals, The value itself is mostly used (75+ would be 75).
If all you have about age (or all that can lead to age) is that, I can't see a better way of doing it.
