I am wondering if you can help me with this. I have a huge SPSS file (over 2 million records) and at any point of time I can only see the first few (around 100) of them. The rest all appear as question marks. I think SPSS is sort of computing their value, but the values never appear (even when I wait for a long time). I am currently computing a new variable based on some of the variables in the previous columns, and again, it appears to be computing it, except that I only see question marks in the corresponding column. What should I do?

I think it is just povssible that SPSS sin't done with the computing. But can you run any analysis even when values are "?"? If so, try to run some and check if results make sense. Maybe it is just a limitation caused by the data itself/version/your computer power, not sure. But, if analysis are fine, you'll just won't be able to see data - and that's not important at all when you have millions of cases. If you can't run anything, then it is a real problem and I suggest you contact SPSS.
